Hewlett Packard (HP) has announced the HP ElitePad 900, a Windows 8-powered slate with a 10.1-inch display, which is just 9.2mm thick and weighs in at 680 grams. Also part of the package are a 1080p front facing camera and an 8MP rear camera along with an LED flash.
The HP ElitePad 900 uses CNC-machined aluminum and a Gorilla Glass 2 front. If you’re wondering whether this slate will be running the Pro version of Windows 8 or RT, HP says the device is powered by an Intel processor, so Windows 8 Pro it is. HP hasn’t revealed exactly which processor will be housed inside the tablet, but it is known that it will be a “next generation Intel Atom processor” with support for touch, pen and voice based input. Other specs revealed are 2GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD and integrated graphics onboard.
HP has also announced a slew of productivity accessories to go along with the tablet in order to ensure that consumers can get the most of the device. The first is HP’s Smart Jacket, which will add connectivity options like USB ports. The Productivity Jacket includes a keyboard along with an SD card reader, HDMI out and other connectivity ports. The third in the accessories list is a full-fledged docking station which will allow the tablet to deliver an enterprise-class desktop experience. The dock will also double up as a charger for the tablet along with offering the ability to plug in a monitor.
The HP ElitePad 900 is expected to hit the U.S. shores in January 2013 with the U.S. pricing expect to be announced closer to the launch date.
